The Big Flush

Why flushing out your system can transform more than just your body (and how to do it).

“Is life worth living? It all depends on the liver.”- William James

I had an amazing liver and gallbladder cleansing week!

Oh, I feel so good; I am joyful, light and focused. I have energy I haven’t felt in months!

Who could know that cleaning out my liver (and gallbladder) could create such a boost in my life? It is the second biggest organ in our body (after our skin), but the importance of the liver is not widely known. It is responsible for providing energy and filtering your body from toxins, from separating bad food to digesting medicine. Everything you put in your mouth must go through the liver before it does anything useful elsewhere in the body.

Dr. Anna Lok (president of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases) says: “We have mechanical ventilators to breathe for you if your lungs fail, dialysis machines if your kidneys fail, and the heart is mostly just a pump, so we have an artificial heart. But if your liver fails, there’s no machine to replace all its different functions, and the best you can hope for is a transplant.”

Your liver is so precious because it also keeps your head clear (from brain fog), and helps you make more conscious decisions. Read more here

Liver in Mythology and Religion

If the liver is physically damaged (for example, a wound) or chemically damaged (by drugs or alcohol), its cells are pushed to divide and grow. This phenomenon is known as liver regeneration and it is even mentioned in Greek mythology. The most popular myth that refers to this phenomenon is that of Prometheus, who stole fire from the Gods. His punishment was to stay chained in the Caucasus Mountains where an eagle fed on his liver every day, only to have it regenerate overnight and have the process repeated again for eternity. Compare this to the Titan Tityos, who was punished for rape (falling to carnal urges) and chained in Hades (Underworld) to have two vultures (the bird that represents Hades, the god of the underworld) eat his liver, which also regenerated repeatedly.

Then there is the Bible. In the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, he was pierced in his “right side” (the liver) while on the cross. Similar to the story of Prometheus and the regeneration of his liver, his death was followed by his resurrection.

In both the story of Prometheus and Jesus, we are told that the carnal soul (associated with the liver) is to be sacrificed to a higher purpose. Jesus was able to ascend after his sacrifice, and Prometheus was chained to the Mountain (the High Mountain of the gods). While Tityos was tied to Hades (Underworld).

It looks like there is more than a moral allegory in all these stories.

The Seat Of The Soul

Our bodies are made of energy. That energy organizes itself into the physical embodiment that you see in the mirror every day. The liver is considered to be the “seat of the soul” in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as well as across many other traditions. TCM describes that we have three “bodies”, that are really levels of our Conscious being. There is the carnal soul, associated with the conscious awareness of our “common” state. This is the soul that is associated with the liver. This is why in TCM, the liver is such an important organ for the overall health and wellness of the body’s energy. As the General of the body, it is the largest glandular organ of the body and plays a major role in the general flow of energy (qi) and the ruler of jing (essence).

There is also the emotional side of our physicality. According to Louise Hay, illness (however mild or severe) is an indicator of your emotional state, caused by your thoughts and focus. By understanding the root causes of problems, you can heal. I agree. We are frequencies and the body is the most concrete frequency, so it all starts with emotions and thoughts. Louise Hay (an American motivational author and the founder of Hay House) says that every organ has a message when you receive symptoms. In her book “You Can Heal Your Life”, she highlights the underlying emotional problems for these two vital organs’ issues:

  • Liver: Anger and primitive emotions. Chronic complaining. Justifying fault-finding to deceive yourself. Feeling bad.
  • Gallstones: Bitterness. Hard thoughts. Condemning. Pride.

Sound familiar?

The world can definitely benefit from a giant liver flush! 🙂 And I decided to do my part!

What is a Flush?

The Liver/ Gallbladder Flush is a process for flushing out liver-stones, gallstones and toxic sludge from the liver and gallbladder. There are many variations of the flush but the consistent ingredients tend to be citrus fruit juice and oil. Some flushes are done for only a day and others have a preparation period of a week (or more).

My journey was seven days, and in preparation we read Andreas Moritz’ book “The Amazing Liver & Gallbladder Flush”. An experienced friend Aydan Bozkurt generously offered to support us in our journeys, started a Whatsapp group and we joined. It is always more encouraging and fun to be a conscious learning tribe!

I learned a lot more about my liver, gallbladder and colon than my biology classes and the time I have spent roaming the internet combined! I highly recommend getting to know your precious liver.

Here is a summary of my experiences – as dedicated in Andreas Moritz’ book opening statement to all those who wish to take responsibility for their own health and who care about the health and wellbeing of their fellow human beings.

Day 1-5

The first five days, I followed a vegan diet (you can veganise your everyday meals; see easy vegan food replacements here) and drank apple juice or apple cider vinegar before every meal (four times a day). You can also get Malic Acid (powder or pills). Together with pectin in the apples, this will soften the gallstones, making their passage through the bile ducts (thin tubes that go from the liver to the small intestine) smooth and easy.

The first five days were incredibly easy for me. I am vegan and eat pretty healthily, so it wasn’t difficult to follow the first five days of Moritz’s protocol. I sometimes took apple vinegar instead of the apple juice and avoided intake of excessive fruit sugar. Besides adding these to my daily regimen, I didn’t have to change my dietary lifestyle.

Day 6

This was the real cleansing day. You follow a stricter diet for breakfast and lunch. You skip dinner and replace it with an Epsom salt solution (a laxative to clear the pathway for the stones and dilate the vessels in the body for easy movement of the stones) and olive oil/citrus mixture (which lubricates the pathways for the stones to travel and to promote the purging of bile and stones from the gallbladder).

This was the most challenging day of the week, but still it was easy. It is only for one night and you know it will be over so soon.

Day 7

Flush day! I took more Epsom salt and waited with curiosity. In less than an hour, I started seeing the results; EUREKA! The green particles started dropping first in little pieces and then almost nail size hard forms like rocks!

It works, it really works! I couldn’t believe it because deep down I thought “It is OK. I am vegan, eating consciously, and living an active life in the clean air of peaceful off-season Ibiza.” But hey, years of accumulated toxins showed me that what the mind thinks is almost always inferior to what our body communicates to us. Lately, I was feeling more tired than normal, having sugar cravings, experiencing premenstrual syndrome, belly bloating, I even developed chemical sensitivities and minor allergies. On top of that, I was getting angry more than usual. I could tell that something in my body needed balance.

Today is the last day of my “Liver Detox” journey and I want to thank my body for signalling me to get back on track! The amount of joy I am feeling is great, after such a smooth journey that could have cost me an operation, cholesterol problems later on, or even heart problems or cancer if I had waited until the toxins piled up more. Flush your liver and flush the toxins you are carrying in your system!

What To Expect after Flushing?

According to Andreas Moritz in his book “The Amazing Liver & Gallbladder Flush”, there are eight outcomes we can observe:

  1. A Disease-free Life
  2. Improved Digestion, Energy and Vitality
  3. Freedom from Pain
  4. A More Flexible Body
  5. Reversal of the Aging Process
  6. Inner and Outer Beauty
  7. Improved Emotional Health
  8. A Clearer Mind and Improved Creativity

PRICELESS! I already can see an improvement in 2, 3, 6 and 8. Since this is my last day of Liver Detox, I still have to live and learn what will come out and how my initial observations will develop in the next days and weeks. Please watch this space, I will share my experiences with you. My intention is to flush twice a year (on the Equinoxes), as a preventive health action.

UPDATE (30.03.2020): After 3 weeks, I am high in my energy and my mood swings are almost disappeared. I also had the will and discipline to take further new healthy lifestyle journeys which I will share in another post.

A Disclaimer…

Dear CLT readers, you know the rules;

-This article is not medical advice. Be sure to consult with your primary care physician before undertaking any type of cleanse or detox. I am blessed as my mom is a doctor.

-Listen to your preferred experts, research, make your own conscious experiments – see in your body and decide for yourself.

Your best friend’s body and experience can be totally different than yours. I have seen more than a dozen friends applying this method with great results and I took time to read the book. My body bloated more than anticipated and only on Day 7 could I feel it release. But I always listened to my body and took a conscious decision to continue based on my research and knowledge of my own body.

Acceptance and Rejection are your responsibility:

I had an appointment for stubborn neck pain and I first time visited a doctor in Ibiza. He said we needed X Rays and wanted to prescribe me painkillers in the meantime. I said I chose not to use pain killers unless there is severe pain (My severe pain bar is close to what I felt with natural births that I gave, to my two daughters). He insisted that I get the pills.

There is no faster way to push my alarm than a doctor who prescribes unnecessary pills.

I said I will not. First; I don’t need it, secondly; I am starting liver cleansing. The doctor advised (!) me that addressing the pain is more important than liver cleansing. Not only was he wrong by prioritizing pain (which helps me realise that my neck needs attention), but also he totally dismissed the importance of such cleansing. Funnily enough, today I feel almost no pain in my neck (see expected outcomes of flush #3 above)!

Bottom line: Listen to experts, research, make your own experiments and decide for yourself. Your body and your health is your responsibility. Be the CEO of your own health!
